What a dark Thursday, indeed. With word from London, of the passing of (Lee) Alexander McQueen, the world of fashion---and beyond that, design at its essence--- is left speechless.
Alexander McQueen was an iconic madman of the creative world, fond of exaggerated lines and other-worldly designs, his Gothic-inspired garments draped the likes of Lady GaGa to Gwenyth Paltrow and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Emerging from the 'bad boy' of Savile Row, where it was told he once sewed a profanity into the lining of pants for the Prince of Wales, to ultimately being honored as commander of the Most Excellent Order of the English Empire, by Queen Elizabeth II, in 2003, McQueen stayed true to himself and his legions of fans.
Progressive and innovative, intuitive and provacative, those of us who thought of him as a master of design, will surely never see the likes of him again. One of a kind. Original. And, somehow I imagine that's just the way he would want it.
