Pictures are compelling, but nothing beats opening the door, going outside and observing. Why show us a photo of EARTH from outerspace, when we can see it, smell it and touch it.... far better than a photo could ever be. But there too 'lies the rub.' For some reason, we are of the misbelief that we are singular; as a race, as a nation, as a man or woman. We don't give a lot of thought to collective impact, to the bigger picture, to the sum of all parts. It's in this way that EARTH needs--- begs--- for OUR help.
The following is what I wrote about EARTH DAY in 2010. I feel the same, and can't really think of how to say it any better, so here is that post again.
You and I are not alone, we can make a difference, and our actions do add up.
"Maybe we should call Earth Day, Mother's Day, instead. Where would we all be without her? This gorgeous, wonderous mass of hills and valleys, oceans and deserts, tundras and savannahs... And where will we be if we don't change our habits, just one at a time, until we allow 'her' to be all 'she' can be...... all 'she' should be."
Now go out and touch the grass.

I'm gonna quit coming over here to read 'cause your words make me think...and thinking makes my head hurt almost as much as what we collectively are doing to this planet.
